How To Create A New Character In Animal Crossing New Leaf
Brittany is a huge "Animal Crossing" fan! She has played Wild World, New Leaf, Pocket Camp, and is currently obsessed with New Horizons!
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can take upwards to eight people/characters playing on one island. Most people use these other accounts for their friends or family to share their Switch and set-up their own character on the island, just what if y'all're the sole-role player? You can still use your other profiles to make side characters, which volition allow y'all to have more houses to decorate, more opportunities to make bells, and more interactions with special NPC characters.
Every bit someone who is currently playing with/managing five characters in total in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I accept a lot of tips and some valuable advice for anyone looking to fix upwards a side character (or four!).
How to Prepare up a Side Profile
First thing's first—you have to make a new contour on your Switch in order to make a new character in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Gear up-upward is pretty easy. From your Switch home carte, only navigate to the Arrangement Settings page (the sunday icon), and then scroll down to "User." From there, select "Add User" and you'll be able to create a new user profile. You tin can choice an icon and a username for your new user. The Switch will prompt you to link a Nintendo Account with the new player, but you don't have to practice this unless yous have another Nintendo account (which requires you to sign up with a new e-mail accost). Just select "Later."
Then you lot'll be sent back to the User menu. There, you'll exist able to see your original user account, plus the new ane you just made.
How to Play every bit a Side Character
When yous become dorsum to the Switch home and select Fauna Crossing: New Horizons from your games, you'll now have an option to select a profile to play every bit. You can select your new character and start up the game.
If information technology'due south your start time playing equally the new character, y'all'll take to go through all the initial introduction/fix-up that the game does when you first beginning playing; starting at the airport, telling the Dodos your name and gender, creating the look of your character, meeting Tom Nook at resident services, placing your tent, and using the Nook Telephone for the first time.
Initial set does take about an hour—this includes playing up until the point where you're nerveless 5,000 Nook Miles to pay off your first home loan (which is recommended, but I'll get to that afterward). Just once you lot play this office through, you can spend every bit much or as footling fourth dimension on your side character as y'all want.
7 Advantages to Having Side Characters
And so at present you may be wondering what the advantages are of having multiple accounts/side characters on your one New Horizons Island. Well, there are actually plenty! Hither are the top vii.
one. Extra Storage
If yous're anything like me—a virtual pack rat—you'll realise that you'll run out of storage pretty quickly in this game. Even with the basement unlocked, I'm often hovering at 1500/1600 of my storage space, which is insane to remember about.
With a side grapheme, you will have a new house to store objects in! Depending on how much you desire to put into expanding the home, you can take anywhere from 80-1600 storage slots per house (storage expands by fourscore/120/240/320/400/800/1600 per house upgrade), not including your pockets. At the very least, I recommend upgrading from a tent to the unmarried-room house (this is where yous pay via 5,000 Nook Mile points, as mentioned above), so you volition accept the minimal 80 boosted storage slots.

To manage/swap inventory between characters, merely have out the item you want to put in your side character's house and select "Drib Item." It'll fall wherever yous want on the ground. Then when yous log into the side account, your side grapheme can pick information technology up and identify it in their firm or inventory.
Exist careful, as this also ways that whatever dropped objects (they wait similar the Animal Crossing foliage icon when dropped vs. placed as article of furniture) can be picked up past ANYONE who visits your island. And then while you accept dropped objects on the ground, if you take a friend or stranger visiting through Online Multiplayer, they can as well selection up and accept these items.
I endeavour to make clean up my isle of whatever dropped items before I invite someone over, unless I know it's a friend whom I can trust not to take anything. And I mostly identify objects near my side graphic symbol's houses, which are far away from the main area where I'm ordinarily entertaining guests.
Isabelle and the rest of your villagers also won't intendance for a lot of dropped objects on the ground. If yous ask Isabelle for an isle evaluation whilst you have several items on the footing, she'll propose that you have also many things littering your island, and information technology'll bear on your overall island score.
ii. More Rooms to Decorate
I of my favourite things to practice in the Animal Crossing games is to decorate rooms. I love decorating my own home, but I also honey making themed rooms/houses, creating cinemas, restaurants, spas, laundromats, banks . . . you lot name information technology! Sadly, you only have the one firm to do all that with in Creature Crossing: New Horizons (or you can create them on Harv'due south Island!), but if you create a new character, y'all have a whole new house to decorate.
Again, apply the above method to transfer items betwixt characters if you accept things in storage that y'all want to decorate a side house with. Or, utilize your side graphic symbol to buy desired items straight from Nook'due south Cranny or the Nook Stop.
You'll take to upgrade the side graphic symbol's house merely like you did for your original in order to have a full home and six rooms to play with, but depending on how many decorating ideas yous have, it'll be worth information technology in the end.
One good matter virtually this vs. just playing in Harv's Island, for example, is that when you invite friends over via Online Multiplayer, they can also come and expect at the houses y'all've decorated. Go on in listen that you or your friends can't pick up whatever items placed within the side grapheme's house (nor tin can y'all place things down straight if you're non playing as the owner of the dwelling), just they tin can certainly see and interact with anything you've placed there.
Information technology's a great manner to become creative and prove off your imagination to friends!
3. Extra Money Rocks and Coin Copse
At present permit's become downwardly to the slightly cheat-y, simply totally valid, reason for making a side graphic symbol: more bells!
Each player on your island has access to a new glowing money spot each day, which means you can deposit bells in the pigsty to grow a money tree! I ever eolith 10k bells per grapheme, which always guarantees a coin tree of 30K at harvest time (you lot tin can certainly establish more than or less, but 10k is the all-time-guaranteed investment over time). I accept a pocket-size orchard of all my money trees that my five characters create each day. Later I've harvested the money bags, I chop downwardly the trees and replace them with new ones (since after you lot've harvested the money, the tree but turns into a normal hardwood tree). There's no limit to how many coin trees you can take on your island at a time.
In that location's besides a money rock for each player per day. Make sure you have each character hit the money rock every day for your bonus xvi,100 bells per mean solar day, per graphic symbol. Delight note that the same rock may not produce bells for each player, so you may have to hit a few rocks before you find the money rock on each account.
Interestingly enough, there is a bonus harvestable stone, but simply for 1 other role player on the island. The main grapheme (or showtime business relationship playing for the day) can harvest five rocks per day for resource (non including the sixth rock, which produces bells), and i other player can harvest merely ane rock per twenty-four hours for resource. The harvestable rocks won't re-spawn again for anyone afterward the 2nd player has hitting information technology.
4. More DIY Recipes
I really love collecting DIY recipes in Brute Crossing: New Horizons, so when I realised I could get even more DIYs on my side accounts, I was thrilled.
Each player can receive at to the lowest degree 1 message in a canteen per day forth the shore of the embankment. (Sometimes ii will wash up; if you pick up one early in the morning towards the offset of the 24-hour interval, you may find i later in the evening if y'all check again.)
Each player can also visit the villagers who are crafting DIYs and collect a recipe. Make certain you cheque morning, apex, and dark for a villager crafting, and if it'due south a good recipe, why not log into a side account and collect it in that location?
Of class, getting so many DIYs from your side accounts is bound to pb to you having duplicate recipes. Yous can either give them abroad to friends, trade or sell them online (I recommend sites like /r/ACTrade or Nookazon for trading and in-game selling), or just sell them to Nook'south Cranny, though DIY cards are merely worth effectually 200 bells at Nook'southward Cranny.
The merely downside to having duplicate cards is that there's currently no style in the game to put them into your storage. So if y'all find you have a lot, yous might want to place them in a room in one of your side houses until you've traded them all away, like I've done.
five. More than Nook Miles
I know some people find information technology hard to accumulate Nook Miles, but information technology's really relatively like shooting fish in a barrel, especially the daily Nook Miles + rewards. Past only spending xv minutes per 24-hour interval, per character, I can usually get a few Nook Miles points past naturally playing the game, or doing simple tasks, similar catching bugs and fish.
You likewise unlock some from easy achievements: upgrading your home, placing objects in your house, placing items in your storage, etc.
Don't forget that yous get bonus points for checking in at the Nook Stop machine, so that may be worth doing on each account, also.
And once more, what practise y'all exercise with all these extra Nook Miles? Well, you can use them to travel to the Mystery Island on your side business relationship, purchase special items in the Nook Stop machine, or use them to buy Nook Miles tickets, which you lot tin can either keep for your main character to use, or use them for bartering on Fauna Crossing communities like /r/ACTrade or Nookazon. Nook Miles tickets are highly sought after in the community, so information technology doesn't hurt to have some of them lying around when you desire to purchase a special item, your dream villager, or proceeds entry to someone's special event (i.e., meteor shower/Celeste visit).
half-dozen. Actress NPC Rewards
Every day you accept a new NPC who will visit your island. Mostly, y'all can only interact with them/receive a souvenir from them once per visit, merely with your side account, you get more chances for interactions and rewards.
You lot can speak to Celeste with each account for more than DIYs. Help Gulliver on each account for his special object the following solar day. Help Wisp become his spirit back on each business relationship for a random reward. You lot tin can request more songs from Chiliad.1000. Slider, purchase more than paintings from Redd, and social club more than commissions from Picture and C.J. (provided you have the required bugs/fish).
There are two NPCs that are not worth visiting on your side accounts. First is Label, as she'll give everyone the same rewards for passing her fashion check (but she will requite each account Tailor Tokens, which you tin give to your main business relationship). Second is Saharah, as she volition sell the same rugs, and mystery wallpaper/floor during each visit (however, it tin exist useful to purchase from her if you lot want multiples of the same mystery wallpaper/floor, as she does limit them to one per person. If you have a bunch of her tickets, you lot can allow your other accounts trade them with her to go a random mystery wallpaper or floor per visit).
7. Actress Nook Stop/Catalogue Purchases
I really dear the catalogue feature in Animate being Crossing: New Horizons, simply one affair I hate about it is that each player is limited to simply making five orders per day. This becomes a real result when you're trying to craft something like a Wooden Bookshelf, which needs five books to craft. You can purchase your five books and become them delivered the next day, only if yous're trying to brand multiple bookshelves, this would take days or weeks to complete.
Even if you just need to order a bunch of items for decorating from your catalogue, having a five-per-day limit is merely maddening.
The workaround for this when playing with side accounts is to permit your side business relationship "catalogue" the items you need to order. This consists of simply dropping the item on the ground, logging into your side character, and picking it up and so dropping it again, and so it's too added to their catalogue of items. And then you can have your side account social club them, too.
I've washed this enough of times, particularly when needing to craft multiples of things like bookshelves or Magazine Racks; I catalogued the single book and mag on my side accounts, ordered them from the Nook Stop, and delivered them dorsum to my main character the next day. At present I tin can craft 5 Wooden Bookshelves in a twenty-four hours instead of waiting a calendar week to do them all.
Cons to Having Side Accounts
Not everything is perfect almost having a side account, so there are of course some cons:
- Takes some time to get set: Every bit mentioned higher up, information technology does have at least an hr to set your side business relationship up for the first fourth dimension. This can exist boring once y'all've done it a few times.
- You lot take to play each character each day: You don't actually take to log-in to your side account every single day, merely it'southward worth doing if you lot actually want to get the full potential of having more characters (i.e., extra money spots, money from rocks, message bottles, etc.)
- It becomes expensive to upgrade houses: To upgrade your business firm fully, y'all need to spend v.696 million bells (including the terminal 2.5 million loan, which isn't entirely necessary to pay off). Skillful affair yous'll be making at least 46k per character, per day with money copse and coin rocks!
- You tin't play with the other characters: I idea that if I created my husband in the game, I'd see him walking effectually my island or be able to interact with him when I'm not playing, but the game doesn't work that style, sadly. You'd only exist able to play "with" your side accounts if you have more one joy-con and play couch co-op. Yous can, however, place your side characters downwardly in Photopia on Harv'due south Island, if yous desire to pretend to interact with them there for storytelling purposes!
Things You Tin can't Do With a Side Grapheme
All that being said, there are a few limitations the game has around side characters:
- Get extra blueprint slots: This one actually gutted me most New Horizons, considering back in the days of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, each side graphic symbol got actress slots for QR lawmaking designs. Sadly, designs and pro-pattern slots are shared between all characters on the isle, and then you're stuck with the small amount the game gives you, no matter how many players y'all have on the island.
- Take advantage of all dailies: I've mentioned several dailies higher up that you tin can take advantage on your side accounts of, only there are a few that don't respawn per graphic symbol, mainly tree-shaking (once i of the characters accept shaken all the trees, none of the others can shake them for bells, bees, or items), tree harvesting (you are limited to iii pieces of forest per tree, per twenty-four hours), collectables (though things like seashells nevertheless spawn on all accounts, special collectables similar mushrooms tin only be picked up in one case), and the aforementioned harvestable rocks.

Hi,
I have a question you lot may be able to answer. Why practise some people seem to have eighty custom design and l pro custom designs? I accept seen this several times when I am entering the creation code from somebody when I am in the Able Sisters Boutique. The custom blueprint has 80 (i/ii & ii/two windows) and Pro custom has 50 (1/i windows)
In example you wanted to see what I was writing about, this is the most current design I was inputting; MA-5116-9644-5826. I found this on YouTube while watching an Isle Bout. I really hope that you might know the respond to this because I cannot seem to discover annihilation.
Cheers so much for your commodity. I did non know that there were places that you lot could trade or buy items with bells.
I expect forward to any insight that yous may have on the subject of Custom Design space.
Most Sincerely,
K. Wood

You lot're welcome, I'm then glad it helps! I hope Fauna Crossing eventually adds on the ability for all players to accept dissever islands, but I doubt it, lol
Brittany Brown (author) from Sydney, Australia on July 01, 2020:
Hi Chelsea! You can see their firm, only you lot won't run across them walking around town or anything like that, unless you go to Harv's Island and bring them there :)
Chelsea on July 01, 2020:
So if you're logged into chief business relationship you won't meet the secondary graphic symbol around boondocks or in their home?

This was sooooo helpful! I'thou new to fauna crossing and only started playing to be more connected to family unit who don't live close but besides was curious about how the shared isle stuff worked as far every bit who tin can claim what. This is the best info out there for those wondering how to navigate having more than one thespian on an island without stepping on toes and for helping people make up one's mind what they can get with an extra role player. ❤️
Brittany Brown (author) from Sydney, Commonwealth of australia on May 21, 2020:
Thanks for your annotate, Matt, and I'grand glad the commodity was useful (all those money rocks!) I also haven't had Redd for well-nigh two weeks I think (oasis't checked today, only fingers crossed he'south at that place)- but according to a Information Mine, he'due south meant to exist visiting just similar normal NPCs (I'll be doing a follow-up article virtually this!), and so unless it's glitched, we should see Redd shortly :)
Matt Pietropaoli on May 21, 2020:
Thanks for sharing these interesting tips! I don't use any side accounts, just I tin meet the benefits for visiting vendors similar Redd -- who I honestly have not seen at my island in weeks. I didn't know that multiple characters could hit the coin rock! Cheers again for the neat read.
